About The Position

Supports the daily activities at the Landfill, including staff supervision and scheduling, equipment and building maintenance, general housekeeping, and policy enforcement.

Requirements

  • Seven (7) years of related experience, of which one (1) year must have been supervisory; OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
  • Must possess a Stormwater certification at time of hire or within 90 days of hire.
  • Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) accepted by the State of Utah within 6 months of hire.
  • Must possess a current Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) Medical Card at the time of hire.
  • Must receive a verified negative test result on a mandatory drug test before starting in this position.
  • Will be subject to random alcohol and drug testing.
  • May be subject to post accident and reasonable suspicion alcohol and drug testing.
  • Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a required background check through fingerprinting and enrollment in the continuous RAP Back (Record of Arrest and Prosecution Back) program in accordance with current County Human Resources policy requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises assigned staff which includes hiring, promoting orienting, training, assigning and reviewing work performance, annual work performance appraisals, and discipline.
  • Assists in analyzing operational needs.
  • Recommends, develops, and implements objectives, procedures, and work standards for improvement.
  • Assigns and schedules staff, equipment, and other resources for daily operations.
  • Participates in work of staff under charge as needed to ensure successful and timely completion of the work and continuation of Landfill operations.
  • Manages all activities to ensure compliance and training with all safety, regulatory, environmental, and permit requirements.
  • Oversees equipment and facility maintenance.
  • Recommends equipment replacement.
  • Ensures recycling recovery is conducted properly to maximize contribution to County funds.
  • Assists in the preparation and recommendation of budgets.
  • Monitors operational expenses.
  • Sets priorities to ensure business continuity in the event of disasters, emergencies, and unanticipated needs.
  • Develops and prepares a variety of reports and correspondence.
  • Ensures waste volume reduction plans and procedures are followed.
  • Performs occasional landfill and compost duties in the event of staff shortages.
  • Oversee all safety activities including program development, implementation, training, and aggressive enforcement.
