About The Position

The Operator – Heavy Equipment safely operates heavy equipment at a recycling center, landfill, or transfer station to transfer, spread, cover, load, and/or compact waste or soil efficiently and safely. The operator inspects equipment before and after use, monitors equipment condition and incoming waste, performs and documents minor servicing, reports repairs, follows safety procedures, and cleans and stores equipment at the end of each shift. Other job-related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

• Two years of prior related experience in heavy equipment operation.
• One year of prior experience working at sites regulated by OSHA.
• Good customer service skills and a professional, courteous, cooperative, honest, and trustworthy manner toward customers and coworkers.
• Good time-management skills to complete assigned responsibilities efficiently and safely.
• Ability to follow through, adhere to the work schedule, and address challenges as they arise.
• Ability to adhere to company policies and rules, promote safety standards, and avoid inappropriate risks.
• Pride in work and motivation to achieve goals.

Responsibilities

• Inspect equipment before and after operation in accordance with company policy, ensuring windows, lights, mirrors, and rear-view cameras are clean.
• Safely and efficiently operate equipment such as forklifts, excavators, bulldozers, and front-end loaders using proper safety standards.
• Continuously monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable materials.
• Monitor equipment condition to ensure it remains operational and minimize downtime; clean tracks or wheels as needed.
• Perform and document minor equipment service and refer more complicated mechanical issues to the Maintenance Shop.
• Complete Equipment Condition Reports and other reports as needed, and report necessary repairs to a supervisor.
• Follow required safety policies and procedures.
• Ensure the shop is clean, serviced, and stored at the completion of each shift.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
