About The Position

The Operator – Heavy Equipment is responsible for safely operating heavy equipment at a recycling center, landfill, or transfer station to transfer, spread, cover, load, and/or compact waste or soil efficiently and safely. The operator performs equipment inspections, monitors waste and equipment conditions, completes minor servicing and required reports, follows safety procedures, and cleans and stores equipment at the end of each shift. Other job-related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

• Two years of prior related experience in heavy equipment operation.
• One year of prior experience working at sites regulated by OSHA.
• Good customer service skills and a professional, courteous, cooperative, honest, and trustworthy approach with customers and coworkers.
• Good time management skills to complete responsibilities efficiently and safely.
• Ability to follow through, adhere to the work schedule, and address challenges as they arise.
• Ability to adhere to Company policies and rules, promote safety standards, and avoid inappropriate risks.
• Pride in work and motivation to achieve goals.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre- and post-operation equipment inspections according to Company policy, ensuring windows, lights, mirrors, and the rear-view camera are clean.
• Safely and efficiently operate equipment such as forklifts, excavators, bulldozers, and front-end loaders using proper safety standards.
• Continuously monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable materials.
• Monitor equipment condition to ensure it is operationally ready and minimize downtime; clean tracks or wheels as needed.
• Perform and document minor equipment service, referring more complicated mechanical issues to the Maintenance Shop.
• Complete Equipment Condition Reports and other reports as necessary, and report necessary repairs to a supervisor.
• Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
• Ensure equipment is clean, serviced, and stored at the completion of each shift.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
