About The Position

The Heavy Equipment Operator safely operates heavy equipment at a recycling center, landfill, or transfer station to transfer, spread, cover, load, and/or compact waste or soil efficiently and safely. The operator inspects and monitors equipment, watches for unacceptable waste, performs and documents minor servicing, reports repair needs, follows safety procedures, and keeps the shop clean and equipment serviced and stored at the end of each shift. Other job-related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

• Two years of prior related experience in heavy equipment operation.
• One year of prior experience working at sites regulated by OSHA.
• Good customer service skills and a professional, courteous, cooperative, honest, and trustworthy approach toward customers and coworkers.
• Good time-management skills to complete assigned responsibilities efficiently and safely.
• Ability to adhere to a work schedule and follow through on challenges.
• Ability to follow Company policies and rules, promote safety standards, and avoid inappropriate risks.
• Pride in work and commitment to achieving goals.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre- and post-operation equipment inspections in accordance with Company policy, ensuring windows, lights, mirrors, and the rear-view camera are clean.
• Safely and efficiently operate equipment such as forklifts, excavators, bulldozers, and front-end loaders, following proper safety standards.
• Continuously monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable materials.
• Monitor equipment condition to keep it operationally ready and minimize downtime; clean tracks or wheels as needed.
• Perform and document minor equipment service, and refer more complicated mechanical issues to the Maintenance Shop.
• Complete Equipment Condition Reports and other required reports; report necessary repairs to a supervisor.
• Follow required safety policies and procedures.
• Ensure the shop is clean and equipment is serviced and stored at the completion of each shift.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
