The Lactation Support Specialist provides optimal breastfeeding support under the supervision of an IBCLC experienced Lactation staff member.

Requirements

  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be available for 500 mentored, clinical experience hours to proceed to the IBCLC/Pathway Certifying Exam, in order to become a Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and complete associated above education requirements (IBCLE).
  • The process of completing the 500 mentored hours, studying for exam, and waiting for testing results shall be completed within one year from hire date.
  • Must be in Pathway 1 or 3 for the IBCLC Examination.
  • Must have completed education in the14 Health Science subject requirements (Pre-requisites for IBCLC exam).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal

Responsibilities

  • Act as a lactation support person and resource for patients and their families under the supervision of the Lactation Consultant.
  • Understanding and coordinating of associated lactation equipment.
  • Provides information on additional breastfeeding resources to family.
  • Provide support and engagement throughout the phases of the lactation journey.
  • Maintain accurate and legible patient care records.
