About The Position

The Lactation Consultant collaborates with the patient care team, other health care professionals, and the community to provide patients with breastfeeding knowledge and skills. The role is responsible for planning, directing, and evaluating breastfeeding education for the Department of Women and Infant Nursing and the Medical Center. It assesses, plans, manages, coordinates, directs, and evaluates breastfeeding education provided to patients and their families by the patient care team. The consultant prioritizes patients’ breastfeeding education needs and collaborates with the patient care team and other health care providers. Ongoing community education and agency collaboration are essential. The position is located at University Hospitals.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of registered nursing.
• Current Ohio nursing license.
• Lactation Consultant certification (IBCLC) is stated as required in the job description.

Nice To Haves

• Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or a related field desired.
• Certification as a Lactation Consultant is listed as preferred in the qualifications section.
• Previous nursing experience in a relevant care setting preferred.
• Prior patient education and women and infant nursing experience desired.
