Lactation Consultant
About The Position
Sentara Albemarle Medical Center is hiring a Lactation Consultant for the Labor Delivery Postpartum and Recovery Department in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. This is a part-time position working 16 hours per week on a rotating shift. The Lactation Consultant helps breastfeeding women and their families define and achieve their breastfeeding goals by providing evidence-based care, customer service, and cultural sensitivity. The role provides breastfeeding education to other healthcare professionals and requires clinical knowledge and skills that meet lactation practice standards set by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE).
Requirements
- An associate's or bachelor's degree in nursing.
- A registered nursing license or Physician Assistant qualification.
- For Women's Care–Perinatal departments, NRP certification within 6 months of hire.
- BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
- One year of acute-care registered nurse experience in women's health, or one year of Physician Assistant experience.
- Strong understanding of patient safety protocols.
- Ability to manage complex cases in fast-paced environments.
- Ability to communicate with patients and providers.
Responsibilities
- Help breastfeeding women and their families define and achieve their breastfeeding goals.
- Provide evidence-based lactation care, customer service, and culturally sensitive support.
- Provide breastfeeding education to other healthcare professional team members.
- Maintain clinical knowledge and skills that meet IBLCE lactation practice standards.
