Lactation Consultant
About The Position
The Lactation Consultant works in the Women and Infant Services postpartum units at Butterworth Hospital, which provide care for mother-baby couplets after labor and delivery. The role provides information, instruction, assistance, and support to lactating mothers and families during this transitional period. The consultant participates in projects and develops or revises procedures, policies, educational materials, guidelines, and educational programs related to lactation. The role also collaborates with and serves as a resource for other health professionals to promote quality services and patient education within the institution and community.
Requirements
- Associate's degree or equivalent and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification; or licensure as a Registered Nurse in Michigan and attainment of IBCLC certification within one year of placement in the role.
- Five years of relevant maternal/child/neonatal intensive care nursing experience and/or lactation education.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross within 90 days.
