Lactation Consultant
About The Position
The Lactation Consultant provides information, instruction, assistance, and support to lactating mothers and families. The role participates in projects and develops or revises procedures, policies, educational materials, guidelines, and educational programs related to lactation issues. The consultant collaborates with and serves as a resource for other health professionals to promote high-quality services and patient education within the institution and in the community. The position is based in the Women and Infant Services postpartum units at Butterworth Hospital. These secure units have 20 private beds each and specialize in postpartum care for mother-baby couplets after labor and delivery, supporting families through this transition with education and assistance.
Requirements
- Associate degree or equivalent and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification; or a Michigan-licensed Registered Nurse who attains IBCLC certification within one year of placement in the role.
- Five years of relevant experience in maternal/child or neonatal intensive care nursing and/or lactation education.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross within 90 days, as required for Grand Rapids Hospitals.
