Humber River Health is seeking a detail‑oriented and analytically driven Labour Relations Specialist to support our dynamic and fast‑paced labour relations environment. This role plays a critical part in strengthening our case preparation, data analytics, and bargaining support functions, ensuring our organization is equipped with high‑quality information, rigorous documentation, and strategic insights. The Labour Relations Specialist will work closely with HR team members, leadership, and legal counsel to prepare arbitration and grievance files, research case law and collective agreement language, develop standardized tools and processes, and produce data‑driven reports and briefing materials that inform decision making across the organization. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 2–5 years in labour relations, HR, legal support, or related environment.
  • Experience with grievance handling, arbitration preparation, or collective agreement administration is preferred.
  • Experience researching legislation or case law is an asset.
  • Experience analyzing collective agreement language or conducting case law research.
  • Prior work in a unionized or healthcare environment is advantageous.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple files and tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written communication, with ability to synthesize complex information into clear, practical summaries.
  • Understanding of grievance and arbitration procedures in a unionized setting.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to documentation accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and exercise sound judgment.
  • Proficiency in Excel and comfort with learning new systems or tools

Nice To Haves

  • CHRP/CHRL designation or active pursuit considered an asset.
  • Paralegal training, legal assistant experience, or a background working in a legal environment (e.g., litigation support, case management, research) is considered a strong asset, particularly for arbitration preparation, case law review, and documentation‑heavy labour relations work.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare comprehensive arbitration and grievance case files, including organizing evidence, drafting summaries, assembling documentation, and identifying key facts and issues.
  • Conduct targeted research on collective agreement language, case law, and sector-specific labour relations developments.
  • Draft clear, concise case summaries and briefing notes for use by HR Team and legal counsel.
  • Support costing exercises and provide data analysis for bargaining planning and issue assessment.
  • Support development of education materials on labour relations topics for leaders.
  • Standardize documentation through development of templates, checklists, and process guides.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and strengthen consistency in case management and arbitration preparation.
  • Support data quality through regular audits and tracking updates.
  • Analyze trends in tracked labour relations data to generate actionable strategic insights that influence organizational decision-making on grievance handling, arbitration strategy, and resource allocation
  • Prepare comprehensive written summaries and analysis of collective agreement language, case law, legislative changes, interest arbitrations and emerging hospital-sector labour relations issues
  • Develop dashboards, KPI reports, and data visualizations that support leadership decision‑making and highlight emerging risks.
  • Produce briefing materials for senior leadership summarizing key metrics, trends, and risk signals.
