About The Position

Sims Metal is seeking a hardworking, reliable, and safety-conscious Laborer for its scrap metal recycling facility in the Bronx, New York. This is a full-time union position with an hourly starting pay of $20.97. Wages, benefits, and applicable employment terms are governed by the collective bargaining agreement.

The role supports daily scrap yard operations in an outdoor, fast-paced industrial environment. Work is physically demanding and includes processing and moving scrap materials, keeping the facility clean and safe, assisting equipment operators, and following company safety and environmental procedures. The work environment includes exposure to dust, noise, heavy equipment, and changing weather conditions.

Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work.
• Comfort working outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods.

• Strong work ethic, dependability, and willingness to learn.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience in a scrap yard, recycling facility, construction, warehouse, or industrial environment.
• Basic knowledge of hand tools and industrial equipment.

Responsibilities

• Sort, separate, and process ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal.
• Assist with loading, unloading, and moving scrap materials throughout the facility.
• Perform general labor duties, including lifting, carrying, sweeping, shoveling, and cleaning.
• Remove debris and unwanted materials from scrap piles and processing areas.
• Assist heavy equipment operators with daily yard activities.
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
• Use basic hand tools and equipment as needed.
• Follow company safety policies and environmental procedures.
• Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Report unsafe conditions and equipment issues to supervisors.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
