About The Position

This role involves performing a variety of tasks related to traffic control, pothole patching, roadside clean-up, and working with repair crews for basins, trees, and pavement. It also includes winter operations such as salting and plowing. The position requires operating vehicles and maintaining equipment, with the potential to operate various heavy equipment depending on experience. A strong emphasis is placed on working collaboratively, adhering to safety policies, and maintaining a citizen-service oriented approach. The role requires willingness to work in extreme weather conditions and a significant amount of overtime, including "double shifts" during winter months. The physical demands include repetitive body movements and the ability to lift and move objects of varying weights. The position also involves the use of power tools, exposure to vibrations, and working at heights.

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma is required.
  • A valid Michigan Commercial Driver's License with an Air-brake endorsement (CDL-A) is required.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States and possess a Valid Driver's License.

Nice To Haves

  • One to three (1-3) years of construction related experience is preferred.
  • Anyone applying for this position must be willing to accept placement at any one of our six locations within Oakland County. (Milford, Davisburg, Lake Orion, Waterford, Southfield, Troy)

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of tasks related to Traffic control.
  • Pothole patching.
  • Roadside clean-up.
  • Work with basin, tree and pavement repair crews.
  • Winter operations (salting and plowing).
  • Operate a vehicle (with or without trailer) greater than 26,000 lbs. GVWR - service and maintain equipment.
  • May operate various pieces of equipment such as a chipper, chainsaw and tractor.
  • Dependent on experience and evaluation, may be asked to operate various pieces of heavy equipment such as shoulder maintainer, grader, loader, etc.
  • Work collaboratively in the best and safest method to complete the day's work.
  • Perform all duties in a citizen-service oriented manner, adhering to all safety and Board policies, regulations or procedures, including pre and post trip vehicle and equipment inspections.
  • Must be willing to work in extreme weather conditions (both hot and cold).
  • Must be willing to work a minimum of overtime offered monthly, with October 1 through March 31 requiring 50% and April 1 through September 30 requiring 30%.
  • In the winter, this position will require "double shifts" for up to 16 hours.
  • Position frequently requires repetitive body movement including bending, twisting, stopping, crouching, kneeling, grasping, holding and extended periods of standing.
  • Position occasionally requires the ability to move, push or pull objects up to 90 pounds, lift 20 pounds overhead, 40 pounds to shoulder level and 60 pounds to waist level.
  • Position requires the use of power tools, exposure to vibrations and occasional work at varying levels of height.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States and possess a Valid Driver's License.
