About The Position

Responsible for the repair and upkeep of Fair Grounds property, including barns, the grandstand, office buildings, off-track betting parlors, and grounds. Under the direct supervision of a higher-level operations or maintenance employee, the skilled laborer performs a variety of tasks involving the maintenance, repair, and/or operation of installations and facilities. The role also requires certification or licensure in a related field.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Must be able to obtain a racing license from the Louisiana Racing Commission.
• At least two years of relevant experience required.
• The role requires certification or licensure in a related field.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate small stationary equipment such as air compressors, portable generators, concrete mixers, and pumps.
• Operate heavy equipment such as water trucks, Kubotas, and skid loaders.
• Operate, maintain, and make minor repairs to small equipment such as tractors, mowers, and power saws.
• Operate automotive equipment, including pickup trucks, small vans, or cars, to transport employees and equipment to and from work sites.
• Assist skilled mechanics with mechanical work on machinery and building trade operations.
• Build and repair forms or structures using bricks, concrete, and stone.
• Perform minor electrical, carpentry, plumbing, and painting work.
• Repair or replace defective equipment using hand and power tools.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
