About The Position

Assist the Foreman and skilled craft workers in performing assigned duties under close supervision. This is usually an entry-level position and the first step toward learning a construction skill. The role supports paving and other construction operations through manual and routine machine tasks, while following company safety policies and procedures. The position involves heavy physical activity and outdoor work in changing weather, including exposure to extreme temperatures, wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high or precarious places, and loud noise.

Requirements

Education: less than a high school diploma.
Related construction experience is preferred; three or more years is preferred.
Follow company safety policies and procedures as described in the safety manual.
Manual dexterity sufficient to reach and handle items and work with fingers, and ability to perceive attributes of objects and materials.
Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
Selected candidates must pass a drug screen; candidates selected for field positions must pass a medical exam.

Three or more years of related construction experience.

Responsibilities

Dig, spread, and level dirt, sand, and gravel using a pick, shovel, or rake.
Lift, carry, and hold construction materials, tools, and supplies.
Clean tools, equipment, materials, and the work area.
Mix, pour, and spread concrete, asphalt, gravel, and other materials using hand tools.
Join, wrap, and seal sections of pipe.
Perform routine non-machine tasks, including removing forms, filling excavations, placing pipe sections in trenches, and assembling pipe sections.
Perform machine tasks such as tamping soil and jackhammering, and assist with pipe fusing.
Comply with safety policies, practices, and procedures, and report unsafe activities to a supervisor or Human Resources.
Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
Provide leadership to others through example and by sharing knowledge and skills.
Perform other duties as assigned.
