About The Position

This is a part-time wage position providing laboratory support in the Medical Department at Haynesville Correctional Center. The role primarily involves performing various lab tests, including blood counts, sodium and potassium analysis, serum chemistries, and urinalysis. The position also includes performing control-value testing on equipment, updating charts and records, scheduling appointments, and maintaining documentation. Additionally, the role involves providing orientation to medical staff and inmates, maintaining adequate lab supplies, and assisting in the Medical Unit. Assignments to other duties or locations may be necessary to meet clinical and administrative needs. This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. Wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This wage position offers no state benefits.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy skills to include venipuncture.
  • Knowledge of microbiology and laboratory science.
  • Ability to operate and maintain various point-of-care equipment.
  • Working knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of record keeping.
  • Skilled in recording and reporting test results.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate standard laboratory equipment.
  • Demonstrated skill and proficiency in the use of computers and related hardware, applications, and software to include the Internet and Microsoft Office or similar office productivity software, and automated databases.
  • Ability to accurately assess situations.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize assignments.
  • Ability to follow established laboratory procedures and manage/meet all deadlines.

  • Experience working in a Corrections or Law enforcement environment.
