About The Position

The part-time Laboratory Phlebotomist performs venipuncture blood collection, urine collection, urine drug screen collection, and coagulation meter operation, and assists with other duties as requested. Under the general supervision of the laboratory director, manager, and bench supervisor, the phlebotomist performs venipuncture and related procedures in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Patients range in age from newborns to geriatrics. The phlebotomist performs venipuncture and skin punctures competently and expediently using aseptic technique and maintains thorough knowledge of test specimen requirements, including fasting and dietary requirements.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Excellent customer relations skills.
• Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with patients and visitors of all ages, co-workers, physicians, and physician office staff.
• Mathematical, verbal, and written skills at the high school level.
• Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
• Basic computer knowledge.

Nice To Haves

• Medical assistant or phlebotomy certification preferred.
• Experience as a phlebotomist in a hospital setting preferred.
• Previous work experience and medical assistant training are helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

• Operate a coagulation meter.
