About The Position

The California School Employees Association (CSEA) is seeking a Labor Relations Representative to represent its members in the Tulare, CA area. This is a home-office position reporting to the Field Director in Fresno, CA. The role requires travel, including frequent nights and weekend hours. CSEA, established in 1927, is a stable organization dedicated to improving lives, education, and communities by expanding the rights of classified school employees. The mission is to champion the rights, dignity, and welfare of working people, with values including advocating for affordable healthcare and security for working families. The Labor Relations Representative's duties include recruiting, training, and developing members, leading and mobilizing members for political action, serving as a strong advocate, and assisting with representational matters. CSEA represents over 250,000 school employees across California in various roles such as para-educators, administrators, food service, bus drivers, nurses, and skilled employees in grounds, maintenance, and operations, making it the largest classified school employee union in the AFL-CIO.

Requirements

A strong desire to recruit and mobilize volunteers around important issues
Bachelor’s degree in a subject that still excites you
Work experience relevant to organizing and recruiting new members
Experience with negotiations, advocacy or dispute resolution is a strong plus
Excellent communications skills

Responsibilities

Recruits and trains members
Negotiates contracts
Provides leadership to rank-and-file negotiators and committees in collective bargaining
Represents members in hearings
Identifies and develops member leaders, chapter officers and stewards
Influences members and staff
Develops members who are committed as advocates for the union
