Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Three years of experience in the area of Labor and/or Employee Relations.
  • Considerable knowledge of policies and practices involving personnel/human resources functions and demonstrated experience in the practical application of those practices in a complex organization.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes involved in business and organizational planning, coordination, and execution.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate information clearly and succinctly both verbally and in writing.
  • A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment.
  • Regular attendance is considered an essential job function.
  • Applicants will be required to disclose whether they have received a final administrative decision or final judicial decision determining that they have committed sexual harassment within the last 7 years only after a determination is made that they meet the minimum qualifications for the position, and before an offer of employment is extended.
  • Applicants who reach the final stages of the application process must also sign a release form that authorizes the release of information by the applicant’s current and/or former employers to the CSU concerning any substantiated allegations of misconduct.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Public sector labor/employee relations experience in a higher education institution.
  • Experience working within the CSU system.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted and strategic advisor on all labor and employee relations matters to campus leadership, faculty, staff, and union representatives.
  • Provide interpretation of collective bargaining agreements.
  • Investigate workplace complaints and grievances.
  • Represent the University in coordination with the Chancellor's Office and University Counsel in hearings, mediations, and arbitrations.
  • Design and deliver training programs on collective bargaining, employee relations, and workplace conduct.
  • Other duties as assigned.
