About The Position

The Labor and Delivery unit consists of 10 labor and delivery beds, 4 OB ED triage beds, and 4 antepartum rooms. The unit provides comprehensive care for a wide range of pregnant patients, including high-risk cases. Patient Types include all types of pregnant patients, from high-risk to low-intervention laboring patients. Care is provided for antepartum, OB triage, postpartum, and infants. The unit is supported by the only Level 3 NICU within a 350-mile radius. Patient Ratios are: Antepartum: 1:3, Inactive Labor: 1:2, Active Labor: 1:1, Postpartum/Couplet Care: 1:3 couplets.

Requirements

• BLS certification
• NRP certification
• Completion of a nursing education program approved by the board of nursing
• Registered nurse (RN) in South Dakota
• Competency in managing high-acuity labor patients, including those with preeclampsia, preterm labor, and antepartum care for patients less than 35 weeks gestation.
• Proficiency in IV starts, cervical checks, phlebotomy, magnesium sulfate administration, blood administration, insulin management, C-section circulation, and post-operative care.
• Ability to care for couplets and comfort in managing normal newborn nursery patients (Level I care).

Nice To Haves

• ACLS certification
• Certification in inpatient obstetrics
• Certification in electronic fetal monitoring
• Certification in inpatient antepartum
• Experience in lower acuity NICU patients (Level II care).
