About The Position

Intertek is seeking a Petroleum Lab Technician to join the Caleb Brett team at its Sulphur, Louisiana facility. The role performs chemical and physical tests using American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) methods or accepted industry standards across multiple test areas. Caleb Brett provides cargo inspection and analytical assessment services to the oil and gas, chemical, and other commodities markets.

The schedule consists of rotating 12-hour day and night shifts on a four-on, four-off schedule, including on-call days. The technician supports laboratory operations by maintaining equipment and records, handling supplies, following safety and quality requirements, and participating in cross-training. Overtime may be required as business needs dictate.

Requirements

• Two years of laboratory experience in a petrochemical lab.
• Ability to multitask in high-production testing areas.
• Good math and observation skills.
• Proficiency using LIMS applications and established chemistry laboratory processes.
• Excellent team communication, coordination, and cooperation.
• Ability to follow standard and non-standard procedures.
• Ability to use non-complex and complex instrumentation.
• Ability to work overtime as business needs dictate.
• Ability to occasionally lift or carry up to 49 pounds.
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods.
• Previous exposure to various chemicals on the job.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or GED.
• College-level coursework in Chemistry.
• Experience operating Octane Engines.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, including Microsoft Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Perform chemical and physical tests using ASTM methods or accepted industry standards in multiple test areas.
• Assist with equipment calibration, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting.
• Clean glassware and test equipment.
• Assist with preparing reagents as needed.
• Record data on appropriate data sheets and report data to the LIMS system.
• Maintain quality records, control charts, and laboratory supply inventories.
• Comply with safety, quality, and housekeeping requirements.
• Participate in cross-training as needed.
