About The Position

The Lab Tech Assistant Lead is responsible for assigning duties and tasks to Laboratory Technical Assistants. The role may perform specimen collection and processing for patients ranging from neonates to geriatric adults. It also assists with laboratory data collection systems and equipment to ensure accurate ordering, cancellations, and charges for all accounts.

The position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team, follow accurate specimen-handling and clerical-processing procedures, communicate effectively, and meet the role’s visual and color-vision requirements. Applicants must pass a Color-Acuity screening test.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent, plus one of the following: six months of clinical training in an approved phlebotomy training program; two years of experience in specimen collection, specimen processing, and specimen requisitioning for a clinical laboratory or healthcare delivery system; or at least a two-year degree in chemical, physical, or biological science or a health-related specialty.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to understand and apply accurate procedures in specimen handling and clerical processing.
• Sufficient finger sensation and visual ability to locate patients’ blood vessels.
• Effective communication skills, including good written and oral communication skills.
• Color vision acuity required to safely perform the duties.
• Must submit to and pass a Color-Acuity screening test.

• Demonstrated knowledge of computer systems and design.
• Demonstrated public relations skills and service delivery training.

Responsibilities

• Assign duties and tasks performed by Laboratory Technical Assistants.
• As necessary, collect and process specimens for neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
• Assist with laboratory data collection systems and equipment to ensure proper ordering, cancellations, and charges for all accounts.
