About The Position

Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawai’i may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative professional and technical (APT) or Instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees such as paid leave and holidays. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees and up to one calendar year for part-time employees. This position provides operational and production support for the Digital Media Program including but not limited to checking in/out equipment, assisting instructors in the classroom, and managing studio operations.

Requirements

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Communications, Creative Media, Marketing, Television Production, or related field, and 2 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for remote production, multi-camera production, and post-production; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  • Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in video production for broadcast television, online/live streaming video, and other video platforms demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, and terminology.
  • Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with creation and dissemination of video and other electronic media deliverables.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the creation and dissemination of video and other electronic media deliverables.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
  • Demonstrated ability to use production industry-accepted hardware and software (i.e. Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively operate standard tools of media production, including but not limited to, the setup and operation of broadcast-quality cameras, audio mixers, and a basic understanding and ability to operate a video switcher in studio and field environments.
  • Ability to work outside normal scheduled hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as directed.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the inventory and keep usage records of equipment utilized by the Digital Media Program.
  • Provide instructional support to faculty by assisting in training of students in safety and equipment operation and providing technical support as needed.
  • Identify and resolve operational problems with equipment by providing basic troubleshooting techniques, notifying technical support staff, and providing assistance to resolving issues as required.
  • Assist faculty with the maintenance and installation of equipment.
  • Coordinate with vendor support as needed to resolve technical issues or to plan with expanded capabilities.
  • Assist with the research of emerging technologies and recent trends in technologies applicable to video production and digital media.
  • Provide support to the Digital Media Coordinator with social media content and the Academy of Creative Media System website content management.
  • Other duties as assigned.
