About The Position
The Lab Client Services Assistant works under the supervision of the Laboratory Support Services Manager. The primary function of the role is to order and label, accession, and prepare specimens for laboratory testing. The position also includes specimen handling, receptionist and clerical work, and other assigned duties. This is a part-time position scheduled for 20 hours per week.
Requirements
- High school diploma or successful completion of an equivalent high school exam.
- Previous client services experience preferred.

Responsibilities
- Receive specimens and electronically record their receipt in the Laboratory Information System (LIS), ensuring samples are appropriate for the tests ordered.
- Quick-register patients in the LIS; order testing; label and accession specimens; and enter patient, stay, order comments, and special instructions.
- Distribute specimens to the appropriate laboratory departments, gather specimens for final storage, and retrieve specimens for add-on testing.
- Participate in orientation and training of new employees.
- Perform receptionist duties, including answering phones and directing patients, visitors, and employees to appropriate areas.
- Perform clerical duties such as typing, mail distribution, filing, charting, and delivering results or reports by phone, fax, or mail.
- Order and maintain office supplies.
- Use the automated line as appropriate.
- Process PKU specimens for delivery to the Ohio Department of Health.
- Centrifuge specimens and distribute them to work stations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
