About The Position

Entegris is seeking a Lab Automation & AI Engineering Co-Op for its Billerica, Massachusetts site for the Spring 2027 season. The assignment is intended to last six months. This hands-on co-op applies coding and AI skills to laboratory challenges by automating manual workflows, streamlining data handling, and prototyping AI-assisted tools to improve laboratory efficiency and data quality. The co-op will work alongside lab managers, scientists, and analysts to understand laboratory processes and build practical, reliable tools that make everyday work faster and more consistent.

The position is intended for a currently enrolled student pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field. The student must be available to work onsite in Billerica for the full Spring term and 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., beginning in January and continuing through June. Candidates must be familiar with their university's co-op participation requirements. Entegris will not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role, now or in the future.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's program in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
• Able to work onsite in Billerica, Massachusetts, for the full Spring term.
• Available to work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., from January through June.
• Familiarity with university requirements for participating in a co-op program.
• Coding ability in Python or a similar language for data analysis or automation.
• Familiarity with structured data such as Excel, CSV, or databases.
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, eagerness to learn laboratory workflows, and communication skills, including the ability to work with non-technical users.
• Must not require Entegris immigration-related sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

• Exposure to AI tools, large language models, or AI agent frameworks.
• Interest in or coursework related to laboratory operations, analytical chemistry, or quality assurance.
• Experience with APIs, data pipelines, or workflow automation.
• Expected graduation in Spring 2027 or Spring 2028.

Responsibilities

• Support automation of manual laboratory workflows, including data processing, QC review, and report generation.
• Develop and test Python scripts or tools for data analysis, cleanup, and automation.
• Help prototype and evaluate AI-assisted tools, such as large language models and AI agents, for practical laboratory applications.
• Assist with connecting instrument data to laboratory systems such as LIMS and reducing manual Excel and CSV handling.
• Document workflows, assumptions, and usage instructions for tools developed.
• Collaborate with laboratory staff to gather requirements and improve tools based on feedback.
