About The Position

Quest Diagnostics is recruiting a Lab Assistant (Specimen Technician I) in Roanoke, Virginia. The position pays $17.75 per hour, with possible shift differentials of 10% for some or all second-shift hours and 15% for some or all third-shift hours. A $1,500 sign-on bonus is offered. The role is scheduled Monday through Friday, 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, with rotational weekends; depending on staffing needs, work on weekends, holidays, on call, and overtime may be required. No prior experience is required. The position involves preparing, processing, and moving specimens and related data to support laboratory analysis and testing.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• No experience required.
• Flexibility to work primarily night shifts; weekends, holidays, on-call work, and overtime may be required based on staffing needs.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience in a production or medical environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Enter test orders; presort specimens; and pick up and deliver processed specimens to the laboratory.
• Centrifuge and aliquot specimens.
• Process specimens to be sent to additional facilities.
• Prepare laboratory specimens for various analyses and testing.
• Identify specimen problems, and in some cases resolve issues such as missing information.
• Understand the relationship between tests ordered and specimens received.
