About The Position

Carey Services is a community-based organization that provides supports and services determined through person-centered planning, where individuals and their families direct the planning and allocation of resources to meet their individual life goals. They believe in creating inclusive communities where everyone is valued, respected, and able to contribute. This position would work in The Kitchen CoMPany and The aMPersand, which are vocational training spaces offering a place for people with and without disabilities to learn and grow together. The Kitchen CoMPany is a breakfast lunch location on their main campus that also offers catering. The aMPersand is a retail space as well as a cafe that serves breakfast, lunch, coffee, tea, and other fun drinks. The organization is seeking a dependable and motivated Kitchen Tech to support the daily operations of Carey Services’ foodservice business enterprises. In this role, you will play a hands-on part in meal preparation, kitchen sanitation, and overall foodservice workflow. Working alongside the Foodservice Business Manager and Kitchen Specialists, you will help maintain a safe, clean, and efficient kitchen environment while contributing to an inclusive learning lab setting. Your work will not only help drive quality service but also empower individuals with disabilities to develop valuable culinary and workforce skills. Requirements

  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age
  • Must possess form of ID
  • Must have a desire to work in the foodservice area
  • Familiarity with food preparation, storage procedures, and basic dishwashing practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, follow instructions, stay organized, and maintain focus on assigned tasks.
  • Ability to walk, stand, or sit for extended periods (up to 3 hours)
  • Ability to lift and carry 40 pounds or more
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hairnets, gloves, face masks, and gowns.
  • Ability to follow food safety practices, universal precautions, and agency safety standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working in a kitchen or foodservice environment is a plus.
  • Ability to support meal preparation tasks, including washing, peeling, and portioning ingredients.
  • Basic understanding of using and maintaining common kitchen equipment.
  • Commitment to maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards in kitchen, dishwashing, and dining areas.
  • Strong teamwork skills and willingness to take direction from supervisors and coworkers.
  • Ability to stay flexible, organized, and proactive in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Openness to training new kitchen team members when needed.
  • Enthusiasm for working in a mission-driven setting that supports individuals with disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the daily preparation of food items according to menu guidelines, including prepping ingredients, setting up supplies and utensils, and supporting catering activities.
  • Routinely clean and sanitize the kitchen, dining areas, dishwashing stations, and all related foodservice equipment to ensure a safe and healthy environment.
  • Store food and leftovers safely, following appropriate temperature guidelines and health code regulations.
  • Wash dishes, serving tools, and cooking equipment using regulated washing methods and temperatures.
  • Assist with deliveries, control inventory by following "First In, First Out" methods, and communicate material needs to the Foodservice Business Manager and Kitchen Specialists.
  • Actively participate in waste reduction, recycling, and composting practices.
