About The Position

The Kitchen Steward keeps the hotel kitchen clean, sanitary, and organized. The role includes cleaning dishes, pots, equipment, and floors; removing trash; and returning clean china, glassware, and silverware to their proper storage locations while handling them carefully. The steward works with the kitchen team, interacts with guests and teammates, and may work independently. A flexible, dependable, and composed approach is important, including when handling stressful, high-pressure situations. The posting prefers a high school diploma or equivalent and/or relevant experience in a hotel or related field. Full-time employees become eligible for a benefits package after an initial waiting period. The Gunter Hotel is a historic downtown San Antonio property near the River Walk and the Alamo, with Bar 414 and Market on Houston.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent and/or relevant experience in a hotel or related field is preferred.
Ability to convey information and ideas clearly.
Strong decision-making skills, including evaluating and selecting among alternatives quickly and accurately.
Ability to perform effectively in stressful, high-pressure situations.
Ability to maintain composure and objectivity under pressure.
Reliability, good character, and a flexible, can-do attitude.

Responsibilities

Clean dishes, pots, kitchen equipment, and floors, and take out the trash.
Maintain kitchen cleanliness and sanitation.
Return clean china, glassware, and silverware to their proper storage locations, taking care to prevent breakage.
Work with kitchen teammates and interact with guests; take on tasks flexibly, including working independently when needed.
Represent the team reliably and make sound choices.
Store and rotate food appropriately.
