About The Position

The Kitchen Lead is responsible for overseeing all kitchen operations within a Type B Assisted Living and Memory Care community. This role ensures that residents receive nutritious, high-quality meals that meet dietary requirements while maintaining compliance with all health, safety, and regulatory standards. The Kitchen Lead manages menu planning, food ordering, inventory, and kitchen staff, creating a safe and welcoming dining experience for seniors.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in food service, preferably in senior living, healthcare, or hospitality
  • Experience in a supervisory or lead kitchen role preferred
  • Knowledge of dietary needs for seniors and special diets
  • Food Handler’s Certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in a kitchen environment with exposure to heat and cold

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily kitchen operations, including meal preparation, service, and cleanup
  • Ensure all meals are prepared and served in a timely, safe, and appetizing manner
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment in compliance with local and state regulations
  • Develop and implement weekly/monthly menus that meet nutritional standards for seniors
  • Modify menus to accommodate special diets (e.g., diabetic, low-sodium, pureed, mechanical soft)
  • Incorporate resident preferences and feedback into menu planning
  • Manage food and supply ordering to maintain appropriate inventory levels
  • Monitor food costs and minimize waste
  • Ensure proper storage and rotation of all food items (FIFO method)
  • Train, schedule, and supervise kitchen staff
  • Ensure staff follow food safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures
  • Promote a positive, team-oriented work environment
  • Ensure meals are appealing, nutritious, and tailored to the needs of assisted living and memory care residents
  • Engage with residents and staff to gather feedback and improve dining services
  • Support a calm and structured dining environment, especially for memory care residents
  • Maintain compliance with state regulations for Type B Assisted Living facilities
  • Ensure adherence to food safety standards (e.g., temperature logs, sanitation practices)
  • Participate in inspections and audits as required
