About The Position

The kitchen is responsible to supply thermally processed and ready to eat materials for the plate and pack operation. Areas of responsibility are decant, dish room, CIP systems, WIP storage and spice batching. The kitchen lead works with their leadership to monitor and maintain production in the kitchen in a safe and efficient manner. The kitchen lead will assign team members duties within the department, provide hands on training to employees, complete production logs, quality records, and troubleshoot upsets as needed. The kitchen lead will be a team player to work collaboratively with plate and pack, quality, warehouse and maintenance to achieve the day’s production targets. The kitchen lead will solve technical problems, resolve conflicts, and achieve results through growing and developing team members in the department. The kitchen lead may need to interface with in plant USDA inspectors. This position may require team members to work in variable temperature environments during the shift 34˚F - 70˚F.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Pass a post offer drug screen and background check
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, overnights, or OT as required
  • Must be able to work 12-hour shifts
  • Be able to work in varying temperatures between 34ËšF - 70ËšF
  • Ability to work quickly and safely
  • Time management, organization, and prioritization skills
  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing and/or food distribution industry
  • Must have good food safety and workplace safety record
  • Initiative and team leadership skills
  • Mechanical aptitude & experience critical
  • Machinery troubleshooting skills
  • Able to train and coach new employees on tasks
  • Must be able to speak/read/write in English fluently
  • Regularly required to use hands to feel, grab, or operate objects, tools, and controls while reaching with hands and arms
  • Required to stand, communicate, and listen for a 12-hour shift
  • Occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or climb stairs for a 12-hour shift
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Visual perception to perform job including peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Able to perform repetitive movements
  • Able to work in variable temperatures (cold/hot)
  • Must be able to interact with common food allergens

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or trade school
  • Prior machine operation using production processing or packaging experience
  • Scanning and AX/inventory experience
  • Experience using forklifts and pallet jacks
  • Bilingual in (English/Spanish)
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)/food safety rules

Responsibilities

  • Communicate effectively and regularly with team members and leaders
  • Adhere to strict safety, quality, and production standards including food safety and sanitation guidelines
  • Teach, coach, motivate, and lead team members to perform at the highest level
  • Collaborate with leadership and the production team to achieve business results
  • Ensure team member adherence to all safety, quality, and production standards
  • Assign team members’ tasks to ensure all job duties are completed
  • Inspect equipment cleanliness, configuration, and setpoints prior to production
  • Verify processed product counts and complete the required paperwork
  • Complete inventory of materials to determine efficient planning of schedule demands
  • Organize the team breaks to optimize efficiency and coverage
  • Collaborate with leadership to accomplish the day’s objectives
  • Assist supervisor in preparation for the shift hand-off meeting for the oncoming shift
  • Utilize safety equipment and consistently demonstrate all food safety and personal safety guidelines
  • Take the initiative to solve imperfections before they become problems
  • Collaborate with maintenance to ensure priority and window of opportunity for repair
  • Interface with USDA or regulatory representatives as necessary
  • Complete powered industrial truck certification
  • Provide break or vacancy coverage for Kitchen III, Kitchen II, OP I as required
