About The Position

IDEA Early Childhood Co-Teachers support Tier 1 instruction in Prekindergarten through Grade 2 and provide targeted intervention under the direction of the lead teacher. The Kindergarten Co-Teacher facilitates small-group learning, provides academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support, and helps create joyful, engaging learning environments. Working closely with lead teachers, the Co-Teacher helps students access grade-level learning, achieve mastery, and develop a love of learning. This is a Title I Part A grant-funded position. Continued funding may be extended, but ongoing employment is not guaranteed. The employee works solely on activities allowable and allocable to the grant, and the position requires time-and-effort reporting. The role requires at least 40 hours at school per week. Hourly earnings are paid over 12 months. Additional duties may include after-school tutoring or Saturday school based on student needs.

Requirements

At least 48 college credit hours or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year educational institution.
At least one year of experience working with children in a classroom or volunteer setting.
Basic knowledge of early childhood development and instructional practices.
Ability to support young learners in whole-group, small-group, and individual learning.
Ability to adapt to diverse learner needs.
Ability to provide clear directions, engage students, and respond to student behavior.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to adjust and adapt to varied situations in a school environment.

Responsibilities

Assist with students’ educational development under the direction and guidance of classroom teachers.
Assist classroom teachers with maintaining student records.
Support Tier 1 core instruction under the lead teacher’s direction so students can access grade-level learning.
Facilitate small-group instruction and intervention groups based on student data and teacher planning.
Monitor student learning and needs during instruction and provide feedback and support.
Communicate students’ progress with students and families weekly.
Implement a clear, consistent behavior-management system aligned with campus-wide initiatives, while developing students’ character and sense of classroom community.
Help develop a school-wide culture that fosters a productive and enthusiastic learning environment.
Build and maintain cooperative, trust-based relationships with students and families, respecting the communities with which they identify.
Host necessary tutoring sessions to meet students’ needs.
Participate in weekly manager check-ins, grade-level meetings, before- and after-school duties, and school-wide meetings and functions.
Participate in summer, year-long district, school, and personal learning and development.
Work at school a minimum of 40 hours per week.
Perform additional duties that may include after-school tutoring or Saturday school, based on scholars’ needs.
