About The Position

American Heritage School is seeking a Part-Time Kindergarten Aide to support a classroom teacher in creating a nurturing, structured, and engaging learning environment for young students. This role is crucial for assisting with daily classroom operations and fostering students' academic, social, and emotional development. As a faith-forming role, the aide is expected to actively support, model, and teach principles consistent with the Mission and values of AHS and the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The aide will work closely with the classroom teacher to reinforce learning concepts and ensure student focus and engagement. A successful candidate will be proactive, attentive, flexible, and responsive to the dynamic needs of a kindergarten classroom.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the classroom teacher with classroom management by helping maintain a calm, organized, and respectful environment, including supporting behavior expectations, guiding students through transitions, and reinforcing routines and procedures.
  • Providing instructional support by working with individual students or small groups to reinforce lessons, clarify directions, and offer additional guidance as needed.
  • Assisting with grading and preparation of instructional materials, including organizing worksheets, preparing classroom resources, and supporting assessment-related tasks under the direction of the teacher.
  • Offering general support to both teacher and students by helping with daily classroom activities, including arrival and dismissal, centers, recess transitions, and other routine responsibilities.
  • Monitoring student engagement and providing encouragement and redirection when needed to help students stay on task and develop positive learning habits.
  • Supporting students' social and emotional development by modeling kindness, patience, and appropriate behavior, and by helping students navigate peer interactions.
  • Maintaining a safe and orderly classroom environment by supervising students and ensuring adherence to school policies and procedures.
  • Integrating faith-based principles and moral reasoning into classroom instruction where appropriate.
  • Serving as an example of Christian character and discipleship to students.
  • Supporting and upholding the spiritual mission of the school through daily interactions with students and colleagues.
  • Participating in school-wide devotionals, prayer, and other faith-centered activities.
  • Responding thoughtfully to student questions related to faith, values, and moral decision-making in a manner consistent with the school's mission.
  • Being professional in appearance and demeanor and willing and able to serve as ambassadors for the AHS Mission, Honor Code, and Diversity Statement.
  • Ensuring personal conduct, public statements, and online presence, both on and off campus, reflect and support the school's religious mission and educational purpose.
  • Aligning style, tone, and expectations with that of the classroom teacher, including following the teacher's lead in instructional approaches, classroom management techniques, communication style, and overall classroom culture.
  • Demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to adapt to the teacher's preferences and the evolving needs of the classroom.
  • Communicating effectively with the teacher and responding appropriately to feedback and direction.
  • Exhibiting professionalism, reliability, and a genuine care for young children.
  • Creating and posting assignments with clear instructions, models, and rubrics.
  • Maintaining purposeful and effective classroom routines.
  • Communicating with parents and colleagues in ways that are timely, collaborative, precise, and positive.
  • Monitoring and reporting student progress clearly and consistently.
  • Supporting AHS extracurricular athletics programs if applicable.
