Kennel Tech - Night Shift
About The Position
Barkz & Rec is hiring a dependable overnight Kennel Technician to keep boarding dogs safe, comfortable, and cared for during the night at its South San Francisco boarding, daycare, training, and grooming facility. The role involves working mostly independently, usually as the only person on site, though a second teammate may be present on busy nights. The technician must be comfortable making decisions independently and staying calm in a busy, loud, and sometimes unpredictable environment. The work is physical and partly outdoors in heat, cold, and rain. The schedule is 10 PM to 6 AM, with full-time or part-time availability and all days of the week available. Pay is $20–$22 per hour depending on experience, plus tips. Benefits include paid sick time, regular raises, and opportunities for extra shifts during holidays and peak season.
Requirements
- Be reliable and arrive on time for every shift.
- Have experience handling dogs of different sizes and temperaments; professional experience is a plus but is not required.
- Stay calm and solve problems independently.
- Pay attention to details, including changes in a dog's eating, behavior, or kennel safety.
- Be comfortable working overnight and performing physical work.
- Be comfortable working outdoors in heat, cold, and rain.

Responsibilities
- Take dogs out one at a time for overnight potty breaks.
- Supervise boarding dogs in group play and rest areas.
- Read dog body language and intervene early to prevent conflicts.
- Keep kennels and play areas clean, safe, and ready for the morning crew.
- Record health or behavior concerns for the day team.
