Salt Lake County is hiring a part-time Kennel Attendant to perform basic animal care in an animal shelter. Duties include cleaning and maintaining kennels and other animal areas, laundry and dishes; feeding and monitoring animals; providing basic first aid and medications; and grooming as directed. The position also involves maintaining supplies, entering and retrieving animal and customer records, preparing reports, and assisting customers with animal-related matters, including adoptions, lost pets, licensing, impounds, relinquishments, fees, vaccinations and sterilization, and animal ordinances. Employees work in a shelter housing temperamental and dangerous animals and should expect regular contact with animals that may bite, kick, or scratch. The work also involves exposure to loud noises, unpleasant odors, chemicals, cleaning agents, soaps, potentially diseased animals, fur, pet dander, and zoonotic diseases. Physical duties include intermittently lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling loads up to 50 pounds, standing or walking for more than four hours per day, and routinely bending and kneeling. Weekend and holiday work may be required as needed. The successful applicant must pass a pre-employment drug test and a fingerprint-based background check and enroll in the continuous RAP Back program. Random alcohol and drug testing may occur, as may post-accident or reasonable-suspicion testing.
