About The Position

The Liberty County Board of Commissioners is seeking a dependable and compassionate part-time Kennel Technician to assist with the daily care, cleaning, and handling of animals housed at the Animal Services Department. The position supports animal health, facility cleanliness, public safety, and the mission of humane animal care and control. The role works up to 28 hours per week at $16.89 per hour and is not eligible for benefits. Final candidates must pass a criminal background check and drug screen.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to work with dogs and cats of various breeds and sizes.
Knowledge of animal behavior and handling techniques.
Knowledge of relevant county and state laws and ordinances.
Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
Customer service and interpersonal skills.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to provide compassionate care to animals.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience working with animals in a shelter, kennel, veterinary clinic, farm, or similar environment.

Responsibilities

Clean, sanitize, and maintain kennels, cages, isolation areas, and common spaces.
Feed, water, and monitor animals according to department protocols and schedules.
Observe animals for signs of illness, injury, or behavioral concerns and report findings to staff.
Assist with animal handling, movement, restraint, and transport as needed.
Provide basic care, including bathing, exercising, and enrichment activities.
Maintain accurate daily logs related to animal care and cleaning schedules.
Follow safety, sanitation, and disease control procedures.
Assist the public courteously and professionally when required.
Assist Animal Control Officers as needed.
Perform related duties as assigned.
