Kennel Attendant I - PART TIME
About The Position
Under supervision, performs daily tasks to maintain the Horry County Animal Shelter building and grounds in a clean, orderly, and sanitary condition. This individual reports to the Kennel Attendant II. Duties include cleaning and maintaining the animal shelter and its kennels, restocking materials, feeding animals, vacuuming, cleaning/maintenance/repair of various areas, and maintaining miscellaneous areas like the laundry room, storage areas, yard, sidewalks, and restrooms. The attendant observes animals for signs of illness, informs the Shelter Technician, and moves animals as directed, transferring identification paperwork. They also advise the Kennel Attendant II of needed supplies and ensure adherence to Horry County Government and Departmental policies. The role may involve work during emergency/disaster situations and performing related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- GED and/or one to two years of custodial experience or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
- Must be able to pass the required pre-employment physical and background check
Responsibilities
- Performs various custodial/building maintenance duties as assigned including but not limited to cleaning and maintaining the animal shelter and its kennels
- Restocking necessary materials
- Feeding animals as directed
- Vacuuming
- Cleaning/maintenance/repair of floors, walls, ceilings, fixtures, furniture, and appliance in areas
- Maintaining miscellaneous areas of the shelter for example: laundry room, storage areas, yard, sidewalk areas, restrooms, etc.
- Observes animals in areas making notes of an apparent illness and informing Shelter Technician
- Moves animals to other cages as directed including transferring necessary identification paperwork
- Advises Kennel Attendant II of needed supplies to maintain the standards of the shelter
- Ensure Horry County Government and Departmental policies are adhered to in their area of operation
- Performs work during emergency/disaster situations
- Performs related duties as assigned
