About The Position

Complete work in the fabrication of structural or sheet metal products. The position involves assisting with fitting and welding, preparing and moving workpieces, cleaning and painting fabricated items, troubleshooting and repairing worn items, and maintaining work areas, machines, tools, and equipment. The shift start time is 5 a.m. This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

• Ability to use tools safely, including a plasma cutter, Bridgeport mill, MIG, stick, and TIG welders, metal shear, sheet-metal and tube benders, cold saw, and various hand and power tools.
• One-year certificate from a college or technical school, or three to six months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small-group situations to customers, clients, and other employees.
• Ability to read and comprehend standard and metric tape measures.
• Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily; reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Responsibilities

• Lift, position, and remove workpieces from machine areas to assist with fitting and welding.
• Obtain information from blueprints or drawings, use a tape measure, and mark reference points.
• Load, stack, and transport stock, tools, dies, and work in process by hand or truck.
• Attach straps or grappling equipment to workpieces in preparation for moving them by forklift or tugger.
• Clean and scrape metal in preparation for fabrication, welding, or painting.
• Paint fabricated items.
• Troubleshoot fabricated items and fix or repair them when worn.
• Clean the work area, machines, tools, and equipment.
• Perform other routine duties and other duties as assigned.
