About The Position

Buchanan Community Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the position of JV Football Assistant Coach. This role operates within the High School athletics program with the goal of helping each student participant achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as policies, regulations, and articles.
  • Ability to write correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before student/parents/stakeholders.
  • Ability to listen and respond to inquiries.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts.
  • Ability to apply math concepts to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to interpret instructions whether written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Technologically literate using Chromebook computers and Google applications.
  • Able to effectively take direction, as well as, work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to handle complex and stressful issues or situations with sound judgment, common sense, and a calm demeanor.
  • Punctual and rarely absent work habits.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • Regular, reliable and punctual attendance.
  • Must remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace.

  • Two years previous work experience preferred.
  • Experience working with young children, especially those with special needs/behavioral issues.

Responsibilities

  • Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.
  • Plans and schedules a regular program of practice in season.
  • Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present.
  • Maintains accurate statistics, records, and results of the season.
  • Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.
  • Maintains competency in rules, rule interpretations, coaching techniques, and general information about all aspects of the sport.
  • Established performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition in this sport and is consistent in establishing criteria for eligibility in competition.
  • Adheres to a highly efficient and technically sound program of injury prevention and follow up.
  • Works closely with the athletic coordinator in scheduling intramural and interscholastic contests.
  • Recommends purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
  • Maintains necessary attendance forms, insurance records, and similar paperwork.
  • Accounts for all equipment or delegates the responsibility.
  • Develops a consistent and positive public communications procedure through the school and media to inform the parents and the general public about the athletic program.
  • Performs any other duties or responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the head coach or administration.
  • Maintains regular, reliable and punctual attendance.
  • Remains free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout their employment in the District.
  • Supervises students.
