About The Position

We are currently seeking two part-time (20h/w) Junior Research Assistants for our international and diverse Climate Diplomacy Team to provide research and related support to our work with LDCs and SIDS, respectively. The Climate Diplomacy Team provides real-time and on-demand strategic and technical negotiations support and capacity building to Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in international climate fora including the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Paris Agreement and Green Climate Fund. Our demand-driven support includes advising the LDC Group Chairs (for the LDC Support Team), Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) (for the SIDS Support Team), United Nations (UN) Ambassadors, Ministers and climate negotiators, through the provision of reports and briefings underpinned by diplomacy thought leadership, and the latest climate science and policy analysis. With the team embedded in the SIDS and LDC regions, we also work with regional partners and networks to indigenise the Paris Agreement and enable its implementation in line with regional priorities.

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree or a minimum of two years of work experience in law, politics, environmental studies or other related fields
  • Excellent research skills and ability to synthesise information into clear and useable formats
  • Strong interest and good knowledge in international climate change issues
  • Highly organised, detail-oriented, and self-motivated
  • A well-developed sense for teamwork and ability to interact with a diverse array of people; comfort with working across different time zones
  • Our working language is English, therefore excellent English writing and verbal skills are required.

Nice To Haves

  • For the LDC team, relevant experience in gender, capacity building, or agriculture is desirable.
  • For the SIDS team, relevant experience in climate finance or gender is desirable.
  • Experience in project management and travel coordination an advantage

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and information synthesis on priority thematic areas in the international climate negotiations
  • Assist with work related to supporting LDCs and SIDS in Paris Agreement implementation
  • Assist in the development of a standardized capacity building workshop programme organised under different modules to enhance and build the capacity of new negotiators in SIDS and LDCs.
  • Supporting the LDC Support Team and the SIDS Support Team with logistical and travel coordination needs for international climate meetings including negotiation sessions (Subsidiary Bodies, Conference of Parties (COPs)).
  • Support the coordination of our LDC Support Team and SIDS Support Team through taking meeting notes, developing meeting agenda, supporting the Diplomacy Team Project Managers when/as needed, supporting the Team Leads as needed with tasks related to the above.
