About The Position

The Junior Property Accountant role provides an excellent opportunity to build strong technical and professional foundations in full‑cycle accounting for a diverse portfolio of properties. This position supports monthly, quarterly, and year‑end financial reporting, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and insightful analysis that contributes to informed decision‑making. Working closely with both Operations and Asset Management, the Junior Property Accountant plays an important part in supporting the financial performance and operational success of TRM’s property portfolio. This role is ideal for someone looking to grow their accounting expertise while gaining meaningful exposure to the real estate industry.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree in accounting.
  • 0 - 3 years’ experience in financial accounting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite- Intermediate level MS Excel skills are required for this role.
  • Demonstrated initiative, detail oriented with a strong work ethic.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task while meeting time sensitive deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly accounting package that supports the financial statements including balance sheet schedules and reconciliations and income statement analysis ensuring the completeness and accuracy of the general ledger.
  • Preparation of bank reconciliations, HST remittances, intercompany reconciliations, accruals and amortization schedules to help with the month end close.
  • Preparing a monthly analysis of the revenue including rent rolls and operating and capital expenses.
  • Ensuring the proper classification of revenue and expenses in the monthly financial statements.
  • Recording journal entries, charges, receipts and payables to support the financial deliverables.
  • Ensure accurate and timely month end close and all reporting deadlines are met.
  • Issuing the monthly financial statements to stakeholders.
  • Assist in the preparation of the year end files that support the annual financial statements.
  • Coordinate, along with the Accounts Receivable Clerk, to process billing and collection transactions and reporting activities according to specific deadlines and policies.
  • Coordinate, along with the Accounts Payable Clerk, to process cheques, invoices and cheque requisitions in accordance with specific deadlines and policies.
  • Support TRM operations requests by providing financial information to the Operations, Leasing and Asset Management teams upon request.
  • Support the finance team in handling of external service providers such as insurers, lenders, auditors and other key stakeholders in the year end process.
  • Perform related clerical duties, such as word processing, maintaining filing and record systems, and photocopying/scanning.
  • Perform other duties as required.
