About The Position

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Junior Planner 2 with a mechanical or valve-maintenance background to support project and outage execution at the D.C. Cook Nuclear Plant. The role supports work package development, schedule readiness, field coordination, and execution planning within the client’s organization. The planner works with project managers, schedulers, construction leaders, engineers, test personnel, and station stakeholders to develop practical, field-ready plans. This is an early-career opportunity to build planning experience in a nuclear environment while supporting plant work. The position supports online and outage work planning, including work package assembly, task sequencing, schedule input, readiness reviews, material coordination, and execution prerequisites. It also includes field walk-downs, coordination of permits and plant notifications, work instruction verification, and support for work management teams. The role requires working on site at D.C. Cook, following station procedures and quality requirements, and maintaining configuration control and owner-directed execution practices. Sargent & Lundy’s Nuclear Power Group works on nuclear engineering, design, and licensing, including existing plant life extensions and digital modernization, advanced reactor technology, small modular reactors, reactor restart projects, coal-to-nuclear conversion initiatives, and international nuclear new-build projects. The company describes its work as supporting clean, carbon-free energy and reducing emissions.

  • Ability to work in a structured, procedure-driven environment with strong attention to detail.
  • Basic understanding of work packages, scheduling logic, resource coordination, and execution readiness.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and follow-through skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and ability to learn site systems and planning tools quickly.
  • Ability to work on site at D.C. Cook and interface effectively with cross-functional plant and project teams.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain nuclear site access.
  • The employer does not sponsor employees for U.S. work authorization.

  • Knowledge of nuclear safety culture, quality assurance expectations, and configuration control discipline.
  • Experience or interest in AI, automation, programming, or similar technologies where relevant to the role.

Responsibilities

  • Support development of field-ready work plans and planning packages for baseline work, modifications, corrective actions, and outage scope, with emphasis on mechanical and valve-related activities.
  • Assist with online and outage planning, including work package assembly, task sequencing, schedule input, and readiness reviews.
  • Coordinate with project managers, schedulers, construction managers, test engineers, procedure writers, procurement, and station personnel to support execution.
  • Prepare or update planning documentation, material coordination inputs, status updates, turnover information, and closeout support.
  • Help verify scope definition, walk-down needs, resource assumptions, schedule constraints, and execution prerequisites for assigned work.
  • Support work management and outage teams in identifying risks, resolving planning conflicts, and escalating emergent issues.
  • Maintain alignment with station procedures, quality requirements, configuration control expectations, and owner-directed execution practices.
  • Build and preserve site knowledge through documentation quality, structured handoff, and consistent coordination with site leadership.
