About The Position

The San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) is seeking a motivated and innovative Junior Engineer to support the planning, design, analysis, implementation, and maintenance of engineering projects that contribute to the safety, reliability, and modernization of the BART system. Under the guidance of experienced engineers and managers, Junior Engineers will have the opportunity to apply engineering principles to real-world transit projects, conduct technical analyses and investigations, prepare engineering documents and reports, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across the District. The most qualified candidates for this position will have highly developed competencies in the following areas, which will be reinforced in the related work experience and will be articulated during the selection process: Engineering Analysis and Problem Solving Technical Writing and Documentation Project Coordination and Organization Communication and Collaboration Data Analysis and Use of Engineering Technology Attention to Detail and Quality Successful completion of a BART internship program is preferred

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Professional experience as outlined above may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis.
Knowledge of basic principles and practices of the engineering discipline
Knowledge of appropriate sources of engineering information
Knowledge of material costs
Knowledge of computer applications as applied to the solution of engineering problems
Knowledge of engineering materials, equipment and methods
Skill/Ability to apply basic engineering principles and practices to the solution of engineering problems
Skill/Ability to conduct engineering studies and evaluations and write clear and concise reports
Skill/Ability to analyze technical problems, including those involving computer hardware and software
Skill/Ability to learn engineering division procedures and applicable laws, codes and regulations
Skill/Ability to interpret and prepare drawings and specifications
Skill/Ability to analyze drawings and identify assets
Skill/Ability to learn to prepare construction and/or installation cost estimates
Skill/Ability to keep accurate records
Skill/Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work

Nice To Haves

Successful completion of a BART internship program is preferred
A college degree is preferred.

Responsibilities

Performs a variety of entry level professional engineering duties including engineering specifications, computer systems applications, preliminary cost estimates, engineering drawings, calculations and analyses.
Conducts field inspections and investigations.
Creates customized details which address the unique design challenges of each individual project.
Assists in designing computer hardware and software modifications.
Assists in designing and specifying special testing and service equipment to troubleshoot and maintain transit vehicles.
Modifies and compiles all relevant specifications for the project using BFS specifications as the baseline.
Assists in preparing engineering designs, specification costs and quantity estimates for engineering construction projects.
Analyzes and resolves computer systems malfunctions.
Assists in the establishment of schedules and methods for train control support positions.
Conducts special studies and prepares a variety of reports and correspondence.
