About The Position

Peraton provides management and technical support for NASA’s scientific balloon program, which enables science missions for NASA and universities. Scientific balloon missions offer researchers an inexpensive, quick, and long-duration access to near-space altitudes. These missions cost significantly less than satellite missions and can support heavy experiments for extended periods, leading to significant scientific discoveries in various fields like cosmic rays, astronomy, and atmospheric sciences. The team at the Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility (CSBF) in Palestine, TX, is responsible for designing, analyzing, building, and assembling support hardware and balloon gondola payloads. They conduct launches from various locations in the US and globally, including Antarctica, Sweden, New Zealand, and Australia, and provide launch and recovery support. Peraton's NASA Balloon Operations Contract (NBOC) program is seeking a candidate to support the manufacture, testing, integration, and field operations for NASA Balloon missions. The rural campus location offers a low cost of living with convenient access to nearby cities.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electronics Technology degree
Experience in digital circuit design
Understanding of test installations and familiar with test equipment
Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.
Must be able to obtain a NASA PIV badge.
Must be a US Citizen.

Experience in Electrical engineering, RF data telemetry, digital circuit design, mixed signal circuit design, and signal conditioning design

Must be able to travel to support campaigns in various locations around the world
Must have or be able to obtain a passport
Must pass the National Science Foundation Physical (Medical) requirement to work in Antarctica

Responsibilities

Support the NASA Scientific Balloon Program in the use of electrical circuits, assemblies, and devices for a variety of applications including balloon flight hardware, ground support hardware, test equipment, and/or facility modifications
Perform complex integration and testing of electronic systems
Plan the manufacture, installation, operation, and maintenance of electrical apparatus
Work directly with engineers in other disciplines in system development and integration
Act as internal consultant providing technical guidance on complex projects
Design, fabricate, test, verify, and integrate electrical systems
Assess technical specifications and issue procurement requests; attend meetings, write and deliver reports and presentations to clients and managers
Prepare design documentation including technical text, illustrations, tables, and schematics
Draw plans and specifications for projects using computer assisted engineering and design software
Estimate material, construction, and labor costs with project timescales
Test installations / systems; analyze data observing all applicable electrical / construction safety regulations
