About The Position

Ashby is seeking a Junior Design Engineer to join their team. This role is unique in that it requires excellence in both design and coding, allowing individuals to combine their skills in both areas to create innovative features. The Design Engineer role at Ashby is a formal department that works closely with the VP of Engineering. This position offers the opportunity to work on a product with a significant user base (over 100,000 weekly active users) and notable customers, with direct feedback from internal teams and external users. Design Engineers at Ashby tackle challenging design problems, enhance the in-house design system, and consult on bespoke design work for Product Engineers. Examples of past projects include redesigning the mobile web app, building composable components for setup wizards, and improving information hierarchy for candidate assessments.

Requirements

  • No more than 2 years of industry experience as a designer or engineer.
  • Projects (personal or professional) with at least a couple of users that showcase great visual taste.
  • Burgeoning talent in both UI/UX and Engineering.
  • Good proficiency with TypeScript, React, and CSS.
  • Ability to ship fast and iterate over time.
  • Excellent taste and execution in visual design.
  • Ability to work with minimal company-driven process and structure.
  • Willingness to handle customer issues and investigations.
  • Proficiency with TypeScript, React, and CSS is expected at a minimum.
  • Proficiency with backend technologies is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design and code features for the Ashby product.
  • Work closely with the VP of Engineering and the Design Engineering department.
  • Tackle challenging design problems.
  • Expand and enhance the in-house design system.
