About The Position

Provides basic child care duties and supports Child Care Assistants in implementing lesson plans. The role promotes children's development through nurturing relationships, a positive learning environment, developmentally appropriate activities, and positive guidance. Junior Child Care Aides are 16 or 17 years old and may not perform work declared hazardous by the Secretary of Labor. They cannot work independently in a classroom and must be accompanied at all times by a regular, non-junior caregiver. Other prohibited duties include certain work involving motor vehicles, ionizing radiation, radioactive substances, and most power-driven hoisting apparatus. Motorized floor jacks are permitted. The position requires working assigned schedules and hours as determined by the department.

Requirements

• Obtain HeartSaver CPR/AED certification from the American Heart Association within 90 days of hire or transfer.
• Junior Child Care Aides must be 16 or 17 years old and must work with a regular, non-junior caregiver in the classroom at all times.
• Work assigned schedules and hours as determined by the department.

Responsibilities

• Establish nurturing and respectful relationships with children and provide activities that enhance each child's self-concept and socialization skills.
• Create a positive learning environment and provide activities that promote children's physical skills, intellectual abilities, communication skills, and creative expression.
• Use training and precautionary measures to ensure the safety of children, parents, and other program participants.
• Promote positive, developmentally appropriate early childhood practices and maintain a safe, healthy, and secure environment for children, staff, and visitors.
• Use positive guidance techniques, including communicating expectations, offering realistic choices, and redirecting inappropriate behaviors.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
