About The Position

Peterson is seeking a Building Operator for one of our commercial properties located at 4664 Lougheed Highway, Burnaby. Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, the Building Operator is responsible for providing on-site operations and maintenance services to the assigned building.

Requirements

  • Completion of high school diploma
  • Basic knowledge of Building HVAC, plumbing, security system and electrical systems preferred
  • Strong computer skills, including Outlook, Microsoft Excel/Word, and general operation of security systems
  • Awareness of Occupational Health, Building and Fire Codes, and working knowledge of safe work practices
  • Possession of a car and a valid driver's license
  • 1 - 2 years' experience executing quality work, being proactive, result-oriented, resourceful and following through and meeting deadlines
  • Possessing strong methods of time management and project management skills with a demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Communicating clearly and concisely both in verbal and written communications
  • Demonstrating a willingness to learn and advance knowledge and experience
  • Availability to be on-call and respond to after hour emergency calls as required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Angus, Avigilon and Keyscan is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the building meets all applicable regulatory requirements on a cost-effective basis
  • Monitoring control systems, chemical treatments, controls, water and waste systems, boilers, compressors, fire systems, alarms and responding to alarms
  • Servicing minor repairs, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment
  • Obtaining quotes from contractors as directed by the Operations Manager and/or Property Manager, ensuring work orders are serviced and completed in a timely manner
  • Working with various types of mechanical equipment including pumps, motors, boilers, air handling equipment and building automation systems
  • Performing preventative maintenance, ensuring equipment and system failures can be prevented
  • Responding to tenant service requests in a timely manner and ensuring any follow up if necessary is completed
  • Conducting inspections and submitting recommendations for building mechanical and electrical systems and associated equipment to ensure a safe, efficient, and comfortable environment
  • Prioritizing maintenance requests to deliver exemplary customer service to internal and external customers
  • Maintaining the exterior image of the building by picking up litter, removing ice and snow from walkways and parking lots, and being proactive in noting repairs needed including painting
  • Responding to emergency calls on the after-hour line during the rotational on-call shift
  • Respectfully and capably representing the best interests of Peterson Group in all internal and external dealings
