About The Position

The Junior Accountant supports the financial management of projects by assisting with job costing, billing, budgeting, and month-end close activities. This role works closely with Project Managers and the Accounting team to ensure accurate financial reporting, precise cost tracking, and adherence to company policies and internal controls. It offers an excellent opportunity for an early-career accounting professional to grow in a project-based accounting environment within a healthy and expanding business.

Requirements

  • 0–3 years of accounting experience, with exposure to project or cost accounting considered a plus.
  • Experience in accounting functions such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, and billing, preferably within a project-driven or construction-related environment.
  • Basic understanding of GAAP principles and their application in day-to-day accounting activities.
  • Proficiency in Excel, including use of formulas, lookups, and preferably pivot tables for analysis and reporting.

Nice To Haves

  • Project or cost accounting experience
  • Project or cost accounting experience, particularly in a construction or project-based industry, is highly desirable.
  • Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and billing processes within a project environment.
  • Experience with ERP or accounting systems such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Sage, or QuickBooks is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with project setup in the accounting system, including establishing budgets, cost codes, and job numbers.
  • Track and maintain job costs, ensuring that all project-related expenses are coded accurately and entered in a timely manner.
  • Support project billing activities by preparing invoices, assembling backup documentation, and coordinating customer submissions.
  • Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable functions related to project work, including invoice entry, payment tracking, and basic collections support.
  • Help reconcile project costs to the general ledger and investigate variances or discrepancies as they arise.
  • Support month-end close processes by preparing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, and assisting with related reporting tasks.
