About The Position

The Junior Accountant will support the accounting team by performing transactional accounting activities, preparing journal entries and reconciliations, and assisting with reporting, audit, and special projects. This role offers the opportunity to gain broad accounting experience in a multi-entity environment within a stable, collaborative, and growth-oriented organization.

Requirements

  • 1–2 years of experience in a transactional-level accounting role, such as accounts payable or junior accountant, including journal entries, accruals, balance sheet reconciliations, debits and credits, and processing invoices.
  • Degree or diploma in Accounting or Finance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP, and SUMIFS functions.
  • Experience working with a mid-size ERP system.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with vendors and internal stakeholders.
  • Hands-on experience with accounts payable, invoicing, and high-volume transaction processing.
  • Ability to perform accurate balance sheet reconciliations and handle accruals.
  • Solid understanding of basic accounting principles and financial statements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a high-volume, multi-currency, or multi-entity environment, such as managing numerous reconciliations and journal entries across multiple branches.
  • Knowledge of sales tax regulations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains).
  • Familiarity with BisTrack.
  • Background in wholesale distribution or forestry.
  • Manufacturing industry experience.
  • Exposure to the operations of a publicly traded company.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of organization.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post accurate journal entries in a timely manner.
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations, including bank accounts, prepaid expenses, and accrued liabilities.
  • Determine whether transactions should be recorded as fixed assets or operating expenses and record them appropriately in the general ledger.
  • Provide coding guidance to the accounts payable team for overhead invoices to ensure proper allocation.
  • Review and analyze summary reports and source data to ensure accurate linkage between the ERP system and the financial reporting system.
  • Perform monthly analytical reviews of branches and divisions to identify variances and trends.
  • Assist with various audit requirements and tax reporting activities by providing schedules, documentation, and explanations as needed.
  • Create detailed reports and process memos to document the investigation, validation, and treatment of accounting transactions.
  • Coordinate with other departments where workflows overlap to streamline processes and improve communication.
  • Recommend process improvements and opportunities to utilize new technologies to automate tasks and reporting.
  • Coordinate and complete special accounting projects as assigned.
  • Perform monthly variance analysis and provide explanations for key fluctuations.
  • Set up new accounts and process credit applications in accordance with company policies.
