Requirements

  • One year of experience performing a variety of clerical and support services to include keyboarding and one or more of the following: document or information processing, handling payments for fees, recording monies received, reconciling balances or accounts and/or scheduling meetings or appointments.
  • Ability to use a keyboard, no minimum speed.
  • Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position.
  • Must be able to reliably come to work in person as this is an essential part of the job.

Nice To Haves

  • For some positions, applicants must have the ability to perform work which requires climbing and prolonged standing, stretching, bending and reaching to perform the essential duties of the position.
  • For some positions, the selected candidate must be able to frequently lift and carry supplies weighing from 30 to 50 pounds and, occasionally, materials weighing up to 75 pounds, in order to perform essential duties of the position.
  • Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
  • Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting.
  • All persons newly hired by the Judiciary within one year must establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with other clerical staff to make sure all tasks are completed efficiently and accurately.
  • Enter case information quickly and accurately into our computer systems.
  • Greet clients and customers with compassion and professionalism.
  • Explain court policies and procedures in a way that’s easy to understand.
  • Help keep track of case progress.
  • Update files, prepare notices for trials, and make sure all documents are recorded properly.
  • Assist in the courtroom by operating recording equipment, swearing in witnesses, and helping with other tasks as needed.
  • Provide case updates as required, review case status with judges, supervisors, or managers, and keep everyone informed.
  • Help orient new team members to their tasks and responsibilities.
  • Be ready to work late nights or adjust your schedule to meet clients and customers when they are available.
  • Prepare, call and annotate the court calendar.
  • Swear in jurors.
  • Administer oaths to witnesses.
  • Maintain custody of exhibits.
  • Record and maintain records of court proceedings.
  • Update case information.
  • Discuss daily court activities, scheduling of cases, calling of calendar, etc., with the Judge.
