Jr. Modeling & Simulation Systems Engineer - Colorado Springs, CO

Davidson Technologies•Colorado Springs, CO

About The Position

Davidson Technologies Inc. is seeking a Jr. Modeling & Simulation Systems Engineer in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The role supports Threat Systems Engineering (TSE), which develops and delivers high-fidelity threat modeling products for the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and its Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS). TSE develops models and simulations used to stimulate BMDS element models, including kinematic missile and infrared signature modeling, data production and analysis, and software-baseline maintenance and sustainment. The engineer will work with large-scale, multidimensional datasets, validate simulated data against measured test or flight data, and apply thorough verification and validation practices. The role includes systematic troubleshooting of simulation and data-conversion problems, debugging legacy or custom tools and scripts, parsing logs and stack traces, and detecting silent errors that produce incorrect results. Strong communication, prioritization, and collaboration are important. An active DoD Secret clearance or higher is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline with 2 years of technical experience, or 0–2 years of experience with a master's degree; a bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or other scripting languages.
  • Foundational understanding of aerothermodynamics, radiative transfer, fluid dynamics, and molecular spectroscopy.
  • Foundational understanding of data analysis concepts.
  • Basic conceptual understanding of flight dynamics and aerodynamics.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance or higher.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks and work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Thoroughness and attention to detail, including meticulous verification and validation of technical datasets.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Optical Sciences, or a related STEM field.
  • Strong mathematics, physics, or engineering background.
  • Modeling, simulation, and automation experience.
  • Experience with atmospheric modeling codes such as MODTRAN.
  • Experience with JANNAF radiative signature codes.
  • Experience working in Linux-based distributed computational environments.

Responsibilities

  • Handle large-scale, multidimensional array datasets.
  • Validate simulated data against measured test or flight data.
  • Thoroughly verify and validate large technical datasets.
  • Systematically isolate variables and trace errors to identify whether simulation failures result from input data, software bugs, or system configuration issues.
  • Read, parse, and fix errors in undocumented in-house tools or legacy scripts, including Python, MATLAB, or C++.
  • Parse complex log files, console outputs, and stack traces to identify causes of simulation or data-conversion tool failures.
  • Identify and correct silent failures that produce physically or mathematically incorrect data.
  • Prioritize and execute tasks while collaborating with the team.
