About The Position

Davidson Technologies Inc. is seeking a Jr. Modeling & Simulation Systems Engineer in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The position supports Threat Systems Engineering (TSE), which develops and delivers high-fidelity threat modeling products for the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and its Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS). TSE develops models and simulations used to stimulate BMDS element models, including kinematic missile modeling, infrared signature modeling, data production and analysis, and maintenance and sustainment of the TSE software baseline. TSE is a cornerstone element of the Threat and Advanced Simulations Development (TASD) contract. The role focuses on engineering and validating large, multidimensional datasets; comparing simulated data with measured test or flight data; and applying careful analytical methods to verify technical data. It also involves diagnosing simulation and data-conversion failures, debugging legacy or custom code, and identifying silent failures that produce incorrect results despite completing successfully. The engineer will collaborate with the team, communicate effectively, and prioritize and execute work. An active DoD Secret clearance or higher is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline and 2 years of technical experience, or a master's degree and 0–2 years of experience.
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or other scripting languages.
  • Foundational understanding of aerothermodynamics, radiative transfer, fluid dynamics, and molecular spectroscopy.
  • Foundational understanding of data analysis concepts.
  • Basic conceptual understanding of flight dynamics and aerodynamics.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance or higher.
  • Strong attention to detail and a thorough approach to technical work.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Optical Sciences, or a related STEM field.
  • Strong mathematics, physics, or engineering background.
  • Modeling, simulation, and automation experience.
  • Experience with atmospheric modeling codes such as MODTRAN.
  • Experience with JANNAF radiative signature codes.
  • Experience working in Linux-based distributed computational environments.

Responsibilities

  • Handle large-scale, multidimensional array datasets.
  • Validate simulated data against measured test or flight data.
  • Thoroughly verify and validate large technical datasets.
  • Systematically isolate variables and trace errors to determine whether simulation failures stem from input data, software bugs, or system configuration issues.
  • Read, parse, and fix errors in undocumented in-house tools or legacy scripts, including Python, MATLAB, or C++.
  • Analyze log files, console output, and stack traces to identify causes of simulation or data-conversion failures.
  • Identify and fix silent failures that produce physically or mathematically incorrect data.
  • Prioritize and execute tasks in a collaborative team environment.
  • Communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
